FOUNDATION HAIR SALON AND ACADEMY // UPDATE!

We’ve found a new home!

As of September 2017, we will be up and running with our new full-service salon and mentorship program, just around the corner from Hairpins Salon in Courtenay. In addition we can’t wait to offer exciting new classes from top stylists and are already planning a big hair show to show off our shiny new facility located at 101-254 Simms St.

As many of you may know, since 2015, Staysea, Courtenay and I have been teaching and facilitating affordable, accessible advanced education in the Comox Valley in our fantastic Hairpins Salon. We’ve had the pleasure of connecting with stylists and salon owners from all over Vancouver Island. Our new place – FOUNDATION HAIR SALON – will continue to do this, and to help offer a great place to learn, we’re on the hunt for passionate stylists to hone their craft while developing on-the-job experience in a positive and nurturing environment. We will be directly involved with the new salon, with each of us managing, mentoring and educating stylists part time.

Our big goal has always been to open a full-curriculum new stylist training academy in Courtenay, BC. We’ve already completed a year-long personalized teacher training program with SR Education and have been actively navigating through the complexity of government licensing requirements for the school. It has been a massive undertaking and we are hoping to be ready to launch this phase of the business in the Fall of 2018... watch this space!

Staysea, Courtenay and I would like to thank our clients at Hairpins, who have all been so supportive of us! And don’t worry, we will keep our current hours there, because, well, we love doing your hair!

Blonde Ambition with Tracy Cunningham

On May 1st Foundation Hair Academy co-founder and educator Courtenay Girard attended a hair colour course with top celebrity colourist Tracey Cunningham at her prestigious salon, Meche, in Beverly Hills. Tracey is responsible for some of the most beautiful, natural looking hair seen on the covers of magazines. Her clients include Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Lopez, Khloe Kardashian, Jessica Biel, Emma Stone, to name only a few. She is also partly responsible for bringing the ombre/balayage trend to the mainstream with clients Drew Barrymore and Lily Aldridge- she's kind of a big deal!

Over the course of a day she took seven models lighter using multiple foiling and balayage techniques and shared her signature toning formulas. What struck Courteney the most during her time in LA was how humble and authentic Tracey and the other Meche stylists were. For being at the top of the industry, they were some of the most welcoming and friendly people ever. Tracey was also very refreshingly transparent; the fact is that sometimes our job isn't easy (even for her!) and  things don't always go perfectly the first time around. Some clients just require a few more highlights before the day is done to make it perfect- so she just does what needs to be done. Her work ethic and drive are unlike anyone else- she takes up to 40 clients a day, flies to Europe twice a month to do hair and does house calls for many celebrity clients. Needless to say the class was AWESOME and Courtenay can't wait to share some more tips and tricks in future Foundation workshops.

Who is Sally Rogerson?

Sally is the creator of SR Education, a method designed to simplify hair cutting. Not only does it simplify the process, but it takes it to the next level. She's basically a genius! With 22 years experience at Vidal Sassoon, including a position as Creative Director at the LA location, there are few people with higher qualifications in our industry. We are so incredibly fortunate and inspired to be going through an intense teacher training certification in preparation for our future academy. The training involves 4 three day training sessions over the course of a year with both Sally and Kristen Henry, one of her top trainers. And lots of homework!

So far we have completed three of the sessions- needless to say there has been a lot of personal growth involved in this experience, with more to come. Next September, Sally will be returning to the Valley for our last session and to celebrate we will have something extra special planned for the community of stylists on Vancouver Island (a hair show maybe?)

In the mean time, please check out www.sallyrogerson.com and be sure to find her on Facebook!
